Lord Vyce has possessed Comicron-1’s systems. Linkara asks how this is possible and Vyce explains that when he was stranded in space in their last fight, he found that his transmitters still worked. Since Vyce is living data now, capable of transmitting himself to mechanical forms, he began transmitting himself into Comicron-1. Because the ship was far away and always moving, he could only do it a little at a time, but eventually he was able to affect the ship’s system and override Nimue’s commands, replacing sections of her artificial intelligence. Finally, Vyce was able to take control of the ship’s flight controls and pilot it into space. Thanks to Linkara shutting down what was left of Nimue, Vyce was able to take complete control over the ship’s systems. Linkara realizes with rising anger that it was Vyce who drove Nimue insane. Vyce say that Nimue fought him every step of the way and it is little concern to him if she lost her sanity in the process.
As Vyce speaks, Linkara sees Jaeris out of the corner of his eye. Vyce says that while he wants to make Linkara suffer and die for all the indignities he’s suffered, he’s beyond things like revenge and plans to leave Linkara on Earth and resume his quest to destroy the Entity. Explaining that the Entity is dead is pointless, so instead Linkara says that he doesn’t think Vyce actually has control of all the systems. He loudly explains that there are safety systems on the ship that are completely automatic, like the fire-suppression systems. Jaeris takes the hint and fires his gun at the ceiling, triggering the fire suppression systems and distracting Vyce.
Jaeris tells Linkara they need to get off the ship but Linkara is determined not to leave the ship to Vyce. He leads Jaeris towards Cargo Bay 1 and Jaeris asks why they’re not going to Engineering. Linkara explains that Vyce is in every system Nimue was in, which includes Engineering. He goes on to explain that before Nimue took over, there was a basic computer that followed voice commands, but they can’t trust that interface either - they need to go somewhere where Vyce can’t follow them. Linkara and Jaeris enter the Auxiliary Control Room…which looks exactly like the bridge from the original Star Trek.
Linkara tells Jaeris to take the helm. Linkara says they have a little time before Vyce figures out what’s happened and finds them, pointing out that if Vyce had really been in full control of the ship, he would have seen Jaeris coming - some sections of the ship must still be tied in with Nimue’s core program. Linkara plans to use the time they have to reactivate Nimue. Jaeris is shocked, but Linkara explains that Vyce said Nimue was fighting back - if Vyce was so powerful and in control, why not just delete Nimue? Linkara concludes that Vyce needed Linkara to shut her down, that he couldn’t delete Nimue on her own. Jaeris asks what reactivating Nimue will accomplish, especially considering she’s still insane, but Linkara just says he has a plan and orders Jaeris to set a course for the sun. He explains that if his plan fails, Vyce will get full control of the ship, and he will destroy the ship before he lets that happen. Jaeris points out that they’ll be destroyed too and Linkara assures Jaeris that if it comes to that he’ll teleport him to the scout ship so he can escape. Jaeris is still highly skeptical of Linkara’s plans but does as he says as Linkara settles into the Captains’ chair to do some rerouting…and review a comic, to Jaeris’ chargrin.
As the ship gets closer to the sun, the room becomes hotter and hotter. Suddenly the room’s lights turn red, signaling that Vyce has finally located them. He notes that this room was not on his internal schematics but he is already slowly gaining control of its systems. Linkara sics his Cybermats on the ship’s systems and they begin draining power and causing malfunctions throughout the ship. Vyce manages to turn the ship away from the sun, saying that he will kill Linkara, but Linkara interrupts to ask Vyce if he know what a “ghost” is. Linkara explains to the bewildered Vyce that Ghost is a program used to backup hardware. He goes on to explain that while Pollo was against having backup copies of himself, Nimue wasn’t. Vyce claims that Linkara can’t put in a backup copy of Nimue because Vyce has closed off all access to his data core, but Linkara says that there was one access port Vyce didn’t close, and points out that he didn’t delete Nimue, he simply shut her off, meaning he can also turn her back on. To Vyce’s horror, Linkara does so, and now that he knows that Vyce corrupted Nimue’s data files so that she couldn’t think rationally, he’s able to patch the files with the backup of Nimue. Linkara asks Nimue how she’s doing and she answers that she is operating much more effectively than she has in a long time. Now that she is aware of Vyce, she is able to combat him.
Within Comicron-1’s systems, Nimue and Lord Vyce face each other. Vyce say that he has studied Nimue’s strengths and weaknesses and that his infiltration of her systems proves how weak she really is. He seemingly destroys Nimue and attempts to cut off the ship’s oxygen, but Nimue denies him access, looming large and threatening over him. She cooly explains to the shocked Vyce that at full operating capacity, she is capable of thought and calculation many thousands of times faster than a living mind. She has already deduced 329 methods of destroying Vyce, and begins to enact method #28 - erasing Vyce from existence. Vyce rages at Nimue, claiming that only he can stop the Entity, and Nimue shames him, saying his quest to destroy the Entity is nothing more than a delusion to feed his ego.
"Are you afraid?" Nimue asks.
With a scream of rage, Vyce’s disappears.
Later, on Comicron-1’s bridge, Nimue finishes her diagnostic and reports that all systems are at full operating capability. Pollo confirms that there is no trace of foreign entities inside Nimue. Sierra is skeptical, pointing out that they found no trace of anything before either, but Pollo explains that they didn’t know what they were looking for before. Suddenly an alarm sounds and Nimue reports that one of the Shades has gone missing from the ships storage. Nimue says that data suggests that Vyce transferred into the Shade and teleported to Earth. Jaeris speculates that Vyce is going to want revenge and asks Linkara what they should do, but Linkara is strangely silent. Suddenly he orders Nimue to teleport him back to his apartment.
At the apartment, Linkara makes a beeline for his closet. Jaeris teleports in and asks Linkara what the hell he’s doing. Linkara angrily rants that for 5 years he’s been sitting around while villains come pick fights with him, and it’s time for a change. Jaeris and Pollo wait while Linkara rummages through the closet and eventually he comes out wearing a brand new outfit. The dramatic reveal is ruined by the sudden appearance of Allen, who cheekily asks if he could get a report on the Lord Vyce situation.
Later, Harvey Finevoice enters the apartment after being gone for months on a concert tour, but is disappointed to find no one to greet him. Suddenly he’s shocked by something and he falls, unconscious. As he lies on the floor, a voice whispers:
“A King of Worms sits on a throne of sorrow,
A King of Worms eats up a man’s tomorrow,
With a platinum mask your soul he’ll borrow,
And a clockwork solider is born and hollow…"
A Cybermat skitters away from Harvey’s body.
